T H E I R I S H G U I T A R C H O R D C H A R T (for D,ADGad tuning) Version 1.11, by Han Speek, Dec 11, 1996 To complement my bouzouki chord chart I have now also compiled a guitar chord chart for those that want to accompany Irish music on the guitar. The chords presented here are for guitars tuned D,ADGad (using ABC(*) notation), a tuning often used to create a guitar sound more suitable for Irish music. Since this is only the first version, I won't pretend this is anywhere near complete. But it's a start, and anyone who feels like it can have their own chords for this tuning added - just mail them to me. Similar to what I did with the bouzouki chart, I left out the more awkward keys, such as Ab and Eb, since nobody I know plays in these keys without using a capo (even though it should be possible). I haven't really tried hard to find "difficult" chords, only the ones that may be useful for Irish music are listed here. If you want to do more complex things (fingerstyle guitarists might want to) get yourself a program like ChordMagic and use that to find all the standard chord form equivalents for this tuning. Also, for a lot of the chords given here, a partial chord form can be used. I often use chords that employ only the bottom 4 strings, and also forms using only the 4 highest strings can be used. And sometimes using the middle 4 strings (by damping the 2 outside D strings) also results in a useful chord. These are not always indicated separately. But any chord that uses all 6 strings can usually be split this way. Chords are notated in tab form, lowest string left, highest right, one chord per line. I have also listed the notes actually played, in ABC(*) notation, and tried to name each form. Any corrections, additions or other comments are most welcome. Han.
